XP 32 bit compatable printers

My Brother MFC-465CN printer from 2008 which has always worked great threw a "unable to clean 46" error code.(ink absorber pad is full)
Found a easy fix that many say cleared the error code and they could print again.
When I tried the procedure to get the printer into maintenance mode it will not stay in maintenance mode.
It will say maintenance on the screen briefly then switch and say something else every time I try.

Brother support say's it's a hardware failure-not sure if they are telling the truth.

Are there any XP 32 bit compatible printers available?
I need a USB connection-no wireless.
Just need a basic low cost printer as I don't print a lot.

As, you don’t do much printing. Perhaps the best idea is to just buy the exact model you already have. For instance, a quick perusal of ebay in my area gives these.

Alternatively, a model of the same series, will probably use the same drivers.

Or, if you can’t find: The Epson Workforce Pro WF 5000 to 8000 series are reasonable and all have Windows XP drivers in 32Bit.

Lastly, if a printer you see grabs your fancy just google the name and model inserting the words Windows XP afterwards usually yields useful results.

Thanks for replying.
I don't do a lot of printing but when I really need to print some important information from my doctor my printer craps out at the worst time.

Guess I can go to the local library and print it out from my email attatchment in the meantime.
I'll try a local printer repair shop and ask if can be repaired at a reasonable cost.

Yes. That's what inkjet printers do if you only print occasionally. The ink dries/nozzles get clogged. Run 'clean print head' routine for your printer - several times having to replace numerous ink cartridges in the process. In the end your print quality is much better but not 100%, nor will it ever be again. I've owned over 6 inkjet printers over the years, my last one being an Epson CX9400Fax. All-in-one Fax, copier, scanner, color printer with XP support. Same problem as the other inkjets I've owned. This one spited me in a new way.

I insert a document to send a fax.
"Replace Ink cartdrige"
?!?!? I'm not trying to print anything, just want to send a fax which requires no ink!
"Replace ink cartridge"
Gahhh! There was no way to send a fax without replacing the requested ink cartridge. I ended up using my old Faxmodem to send that fax.

If you only do occasional printing Inkjets aren't for you. Get a laser and you'll be set for years of hassle-free printing. I purchased an HP LJ P1102w over 10 years ago and never looked back. I sometimes go months without printing something but it never fails to print clearly. I have replaced the toner it came with 3 years ago but am very happy with my purchase. The printer can be used via USB which is how I initially used it but now I use it wirelessly. I have blocked internet access by setting static IP and default gateway 0.0.0.0 so it has never had an opportunity to talk to the HP mothership. I have never used this printer with XP but it does have XP drivers.

I've heard good things about brother laser printers too.

I've never had any problems in 16 years with dried or clogged nozzles.
The printer at times goes through different automated cleaning cycles that vary in duration.

The printer is totally unusable now.
Impossible to get into maintenance mode.

Thanks for the tip on laser printers, they appear to be more expensive when I briefly looked.
