Windows xp USB not working

Hello all
I am using a arktek h61m motherboard (not PS2 ports) and a 2nd gen i3 chip to run windows xp embedded. This is a current build and I have cloned the ssd hard drive from the existing (broken) pc. I have the following problem.
In the bios the usb keyboard works fine and I have changed the sata to IDE. Legacy is also enabled.
When windows starts up it finds new hardware and starts installing the drivers. Once it gets to USB HOST both the usb keyboard and USB mouse do not work.

Has anyone got a solid recommendation for me ? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

There is an old Swahili saying. “Nunua kwa bei nafuu, nunua mara mbili” But I think the general meaning is in many languages......Buy cheap, buy twice”

Your motherboard is a disaster my friend. It was never meant for industrial use. For that, one really needs Supermicro. They had PS/2 ports right up until the X8DAi series.

In your situation I would personally take the motherboard outside, jump up and down on it, then kick it across the garden.

Obviously, you are not me. So…… possible things to try.
  1. Unplug keyboard and mouse after it starts to boot into windows. Then re-plug into windows once windows XP has fully loaded and see if they are recognised and start installing.
  2. Check to see if any other USB device is recognised.
  3. Did you install the chipset driver I pointed you to?????
  4. Buy wireless keyboard and mouse with drivers for XP.
  5. Spend many hours trawling the internet looking for answers regarding windows embedded and problems with USB keyboards.
  6. Pray that someone comes along with better advice than me.
  7. Follow the advice I gave before and try using windows 7 embedded.
Good Luck anyway.

I have just had a thought…..You aren’t using one of those colourful LED keyboards are you? If so find a normal none illumination keyboard and try that instead.

XP that old really wants the keybord and mouse to be hooked up from the PS/2 ports to get it going... I would do what Madeleine Takam saids to do .

Hi again thank you for trying to help me.
Everything works except the usb thing. Somewhere i suspect in the bios the answer lays.
Hmmm. A computerized wood saw (CNC Router perhaps????) controlled by an Arktek G41m. A really cheap motherboard, with no motherboard manual, that however has a serial port ready for the industrial controller. Is that how the industrial equipment is controlled?

Or, does this computerized wood saw use a specialised PCI industrial controller, such as the ones in the below link?

https://www.directindustry.com/industrial-manufacturer/pci-interface-card-82797.html

If the answer to both of the above questions is no. And your computer does not use telepathy to control the Wood Saw / CNC Router. Then surely the USB interface is used to control the servos and digital motors with its USB drivers.

The same USB interface you are trying to connect a motherboard and mouse to.

I would suggest there is a conflict between the computerized wood saws drivers and the mouse and keyboard.

Start by disabling USB drivers and restarting machine with the keyboard and mouse in place. In the good old days, one could manually set the IRQ’s, but with the USB interface it is a bit more convoluted.

But regardless start up the motherboard without connecting the USB interface to your “Saw”

One possible other way round is to purchase a PCI USB card with Windows XP drivers and using that for your A computerized wood saw /CNC Router interface. While leaving the main USB interface for your mouse and keyboard.
