Windows XP board with Music Server GUI on top-need help please !!@

Greetings to this XP Forum. I just discovered you today. I have a terrific Audiophile Music Server from 2011 called <>
QSONIX Q205. It was VERY expensive when new. It has a gorgeous GUI which was way...ahead of its time. Unfortunately the company went out of biz in 20112. and I have spent more than 10 years trying to get help, since I purchased this system, It comes with a 15 inch touchscreen, and has the usual inputs (keyboard /mouse /Network port that normal XP boxes have. Everything works perfectly as it should....

The Q205 used to automatically connect to their own server for Album Covers and album information. When they shut their doors, they disconnected the servers. I do not know how to boot to the XP desktop so I can change to the XP Desktop config files, which is blocking itself from my home network and others. I also cannot install any drivers because I do not know how to get to the XP Desktop.

One time I ACCIDENTIALLY booted to the XP Desktop, holding down a couple of key combos during boot up. I do not remember what I did :-( very function works perfectly...and this system is definitely worth saving. It has an Audiophile audio Output section, all made by WADIA. ( Digital Output) The sound is still amazing. I have it loaded with approx 400 albums but I am not able to import any additional tunes, which is the reason I need help. The Network port works properly and I still get a valid IP address.

If anyone in this forum can help me, I would be incredibly thankful to you. If you need to be compensated for your time and effort, I am OPK with that as well. My knowledge of hardware and software is much higher than the norm, so I will NOT drive you crazy on the phone.

** I have attached pix of the unit, screen and rear of the machine
Sincere thanks,

Mike S.

Hiya Mike

Probably F8 – boot into safe mode. Then msconfig and startup and removing/disabling the overlay from the start up. I am far too drunk to give a sensible and comprehensive answer at the moment. I will boot up my XP system and look at it tomorrow and get back to you.

I am pretty sure your system will have a built-in high-end DAC, or it should anyway.

If you are listening to lossless. Flac and not locked into some proprietary file type. You might have to move over to Foobar, if we can’t get your system to work stand alone. Drivers for your DAC are going to be essential to any solution.

Chat tomorrow

OK. I have read up on the QSONIX Q205. A number of things surprised me. Chief among those, was that it doesn’t have a high-end DAC. In fact, it has no DAC. This is actually a good thing, because one can pair with a decent DAC like a Cambridge Audio or Quad.

The other thing I noted in your post……… now I am sober and having a coffee. This company went out of business in 2012. 14 Years ago!!!

Apparently, you can’t import WAV files. Why on earth anyone would want to over Flac is beyond me. All in all Foobar does more. However, you are used to the interface you have, are happy with it, so we will concentrate on you manually importing your music files.

I personally use Foobar (Which can handle everything) on a laptop with the sound card disabled and going to a Cambridge Audio DAC through USB 2. For me to import files I created a link to the Music Folder either MP3 or FLAC and just dumped them on the drive. I have about 20,000 albums in FLAC and MP3.

With FLAC there is not much point going to 24Bit 192kHz, as the file size is silly. 24bit 44.1 kHz is plenty good enough, the studio masters are no better. Even 16bit 44.1 kHz is ok. Your system can easily handle 24bit 192Khz.

To import music files on your system you need to create a link to the folder where your music is stored. First get into Windows XP ….I have described how you do this in my previous drunken post.

Then search for a big folder containing music and see what is in there.

There are so many variables to get you to set up your network that we will take it one step at a time.

By the time you get back to me. I am hoping you will have been able to transfer some music files via USB stick.

If not already present ..plug in USB keyboard and Mouse.

Press F8 repeatedly on start up IE the moment power button is on.

Choose Safe Mode

Control Panel

My Computer

C Drive

Search for folder where music is stored. (You have 400 albums… Find …by right clicking to see sizes of different folders. It could be in My Files or anywhere to be honest, but it will be large.)

Once found …. Check file types.

From a standard computer place music files on USB stick.

Plug USB stick into QSONIX Q205.

Transfer music files over to folder.

Restart QSONIX Q205.

Do you see files / Music

Tell us what you see.

SIr... I am VERY well versed in file and packet size and which apps are considered best. I do have a Nucleus+ ROON system....
I can transfer files from the USB ports ( stick or SSD drive BUT ONLY if the drive is formatted NTFS..If it is formated anything else, it does not allow the files to be transferred...
I was able to type in the QSONIX IP address on a Surface Pro browser and use that the same as a remote TIDAL, ROON, or any other app which is amazing.

***I am still lookin for XP help.. The QSONIX will NOT boot up if the USB drive is plugged in during the boot-up...I need to get into both the
Config.sys file & the Autoexec.Bat so I can change the way the box tries to connect to their music info server, which no longer exists.
The QSONIX also does NOT allow anything to try and access it or its' drives.

Thanks to anyone reading this

I will try the F8 later tonight thank you very much,
The File Format is WAV but it DOES support FLAC and DSD files. also...this does NOT have a DAC in it ,which is VG....The AUDIO section is on a totally separate board, from WADIA.. believe me I have some terrific pieces, but the output Wadia board is terrific to this day, and very much worth keeping this classic system alive...
thank you

Mr. Cat,
Thanks again for your communication. Since my post, I found that holding the Q and F2 during boot-up goes directly to the >>

Windows Embedded Standard ( Win XP) Log In Windows. I DO NOT know the password. When I was reading on this, it said that the Administrator -user should NOT need a password...I tried that and every other pw I could think of,and none worked. Do you know how I can get into the XP desktop now?

** I have attached 3 pictures <> The other photo which shows the Network Configuration is VERY interesting....
It has a VALID IP address ( 192.168.1.219 ) I cannot ping to it, but when I type that IP on a Tablet, I get the QSONIX user desktop, which allows me to play any and all the music in the system...so I am CLOSE. When I PING that IP, it DOES NOT allow a connection.....

Do you have any new ideas Sir ? Pls drink some strong coffee, so lessen your buzz :) REALLY appreciate you
Mike

Mr Cat,
Sorry I did not attached the pictures correctly.

Mr Cat,
Sorry I did not attached the pictures correctly.

I explained holding down F8 was the way to go.

What happened when you pressed F8?

If it has been disabled you have problems.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/w...p/unattend/microsoft-windows-embedded-bootexp

If it was me, I would remove the hard drive and connect to another computer, as an external drive or a second internal. Then remove data I needed.

Or

Bypassing password is not easy and you will also still need to put the drive on a second computer to do.

I have used this method in the past from the second computer.

Copy the SAM file from this directory C:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32\config, it will enable you to log in to Windows without a password.

This method usually works depending on how locked down the system is.

Further ideas from other people:

https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-bypass-a-Windows-XP-professional-password

There are other guaranteed ways of bypassing any passwords on any system up to Windows 11 that I would need to guide someone through on the phone. However, I have been informed by Madeleine Takam that you are not a viable candidate for this form of help. You know why.

I will not go into details to save you embarrassment, as every person deserves a second chance.

Mr. cart,
First and foremost, thank you very much for your timer and patience. I think that you gave me terrific advice in pulling out the drive and using a 2nd Windows machine, to get into the HD. What OS should that second machine have please ?

Who is Madeleine Takam ? Never heard of her, and why do I need a second chance ?.........

Im going to abandon the password issue, and try the 2nd PC method. What puzzles me is that I have tried a number of keystroke combos during boot-up and NONE of them brought me to >
1. Safe Boot Mode
2. The BIOS screen

earlier today I spent 20 minutes trying to get into either of those screens...

Im going to put to put together the second PC and get back to you ASAP>

Cheers,

Mike
