Using Windows Fax Console with a TAD for non-dedicated phone line

I have a 2006 Dell Dimension E310 that came with Windows XP OS and a Microsoft Fax Console.
I use it to send things but I have difficulty receiving unless I am physically present and can click
"ANSWER NOW" and even then, it sometimes requires multiple attempts by the sender.
How can I set up Windows XP Fax Console to work with my external TAD?
I would like it to work like my old Brother external fax did - listen for the fax tone when phone is answered by TAD and respond if it hears tone, otherwise ignore call and allow outgoing message to continue.
The Automatic setting seems to be a setting for dedicated lines and mine is not dedicated.
I do not see a setup option wherein the TAD can answer, then the Console listens.
Any suggestions?

Thank you Elizabeth, but I cannot find ANYWHERE how to use the Windows fax console with an external answering device.
I was previously using an external Brother fax machine and it listened for the incoming fax tone and then went into receive mode.
If there was no tone, it stayed off and allowed the outgoing message to complete and incoming message to be left.
Apparently, Windows Fax Console either picks up every call as if it was a dedicated fax line or you can manually accept. It does not seem to be able to decipher between faxes and voice messages.
Is there a way to use the 2 systems together - external answer machine and internal fax console?

if you could not find it under a search engine, and the answering machine manufacturer support line cannot help, maybe someone else on this forum will jump in as I have no personal experience with fax console, sorry I could not help further.

maybe repost in the Hardware section?
