Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP, does this make me free to use OEM version of Windows XP Home Edition as virtual machine for my needs? This copy of Windows was installed on computer that does not exist anymore.
You'd still need to activate it though. Wouldn't an OEM license be tied to a single machine/motherboard? But you would have to still enter a key and activate the OS.

No. OEM licenses will work on any machine but MS will not support it. You have to call the OEM for support.
I built a computer for my daughter years ago and it's on it's 3rd motherboard (Asus, MSI, & Intel). I bought an OEM copy of XP and the key worked on all the boards.
