have looked for a suitable machine to install xp64 and although this was definitely not my first choice, nor as quick as the desktop i build, it's the one i like most.
still have this problem where sometimes explorer crashes when you want to eject a usb drive, but since that happens on all the machines i tried with xp64, i think i'll have to live with it.
after winning some of the driver battles, this is the result.
