DAO Problem

I used XP for many years. In order to not loose the use of some very important programs when I upgraded to windows 7 I partitioned my hard drive and kept XP on dirve F and installed 7 on Drive C. In the process I was forced to uninstall the most important program I use. Now I want to reinstall it to run on XP (Won't run on 7) but I keep getting the following message.... "Setup has detected that Microsoft DAO is in use. Programs using DAO must be exited before Setup can continue." But NO programs are open for me to close!! Is there a way to get around this? Will greatly appreciate any suggestions.

hopefully someone will come on with more knowledge of dual booting, I can not think of any other solutions short of reinstalling both os's.

You are attempting a reinstall of XP. Is this on a clean, drive?

If there are no programs on the drive before you install it should work fine.

Mixing XP with anything is never a good idea. Other OSs will attempt to install software which will frequently cause XP to crash.

NO! NO! NOT reinstalling XP!!

NO! NO! Sorry, if I didn't make it clear. I'm NOT trying to reinstall XP. I want to reinstall a very important program on XP when I run into the DAO problem described above. Otherwise the dual boot with XP is running fine.

I've done a bit more searching around and the answer still seems difficult.

I assume you have Microsoft Office? That seems to be associated with this error.

Are all of its facilities turned off. Remember, some may run in the background.

Another idea I had is, try installing in Safe Mode, without networking. If you have a problem accessing Safe Mode on XP I can help with that.

A rather drastic option would be to remove Office all together. It's It's pretty lame at the best of times, bloated and resource hungry. There are better alternatives. But regardless, if that allows you to install your program then you may be able to reinstall Office after

Be really interested in hearing how you get on.
